So I did the outline in blue line and decided to add a huge tree in the background to make sense of the giant roots going through the buildings.
I'm pretty happy with where the painting is going so far. It's not as loose as the background in the character piece but it's not super tight either. It still manages to carry a loose painterly feel to it.
